Struggling With Motivation to Exercise? Try This Simple Technique

Are you struggling to summon up the motivation to exercise? Are you constantly telling yourself you must get to the gym, but finding that other things just get in the way?

It is a typical scenario, and one that is actually pretty simple to address.

The first thing you need to do, is stop hassling yourself to exercise. You do not have to have willpower of steel or be super disciplined, so you can stop worrying about that right away. Relax a little and have faith that your body will intuitively know what is good for it, if you give yourself a chance to listen to what it is telling you.

Next, you need to sit down! Yes, the first step to successful fat loss is sitting down and doing practically nothing! Get a pen and piece of paper (and a cup of tea – but skip the sugar and cookies) and begin to write down what you want to achieve when it comes to your health and fitness.

Do you want to lose body fat? Do you want to tone up your thighs and bat / bingo wings? Do you want more energy? Do you want to be stronger for daily tasks? Do you want to play a sport better or take up a sport you feel too unfit for?

Brainstorm all these things, and you may find there are some surprising things you attach to fitness, that you hadn’t thought about before. Think about how good your life would be if you could achieve these things – really try to imagine and visualize being slimmer and more energetic, or how you’ll feel when you finally learn to snowboard, if you’ve always felt too unfit to give it a go.

Then write down all the reasons that stop you from exercising.

Do you feel low on energy when you get home? Are you too hungry at the end of the day to go to the gym, but then too full to workout after dinner? Do you struggle to find the time?

Then write down ways you can address all of these. If you are too hungry after a day at work, make sure you take an afternoon snack so you can work out straight from the office. If you struggle with time, consider a time-efficient work out plan, using kettlebells ideally! Realise that there are solutions to all these obstacles.

Then go back to your ‘goals’ list, as that is what you have effectively written in the first step. Then begin to expand on the goals and look into what you will need to do in order to achieve them.

Will you need to exercise? Will you need to look at your nutrition? Will you need to improve your time management?

Then, using all the information you have in front of you, come up with a plan. Write your goals out clearly, and give them a deadline and attach measurements to them. But also state WHY you want to achieve them. Then, state HOW you are going to achieve them, in several clear steps.

Once you have established a clear and compelling WHY (remember to visualise and keep the end result uppermost in your mind) and you have worked out practical steps HOW, then motivation is no longer an issue at all. You see exactly what is required to get the result you are after, and that you truly want, and so will take those actions accordingly.

The next time you find yourself low on energy, you will be able to remind yourself that your workout will energize you. If that is not enough, you can remind yourself that you won’t hit your target if you miss this workout – so the workout is no longer an isolated activity with no purpose, but part of a longer chain of events that will take you exactly where you want to be – to the fitter, slimmer, more confident version of you.

Secrets to a Fulfilling Life

1207520_eggs_in_a_white_bowl_12A fulfilling life is one of meaning, purpose and balance and the one thing that everybody strives for each and every day. It is living your life and enjoying every moment to the best of your ability and finding the happiness that is all around you. It is not only about materialistic things either. Those things can give the impression of a happy life but often you will find, that with no one to share it with and experiences to remember, all the money, cars and homes will not bring do we want it, it is how do we achieve it?

The secrets are as follows:

Secret #1 – An Optimistic Outlook

Optimism is a wonderful ingredient to a fulfilled life. Take a look at the good in each thing you see, hear and experience and you will immediately be given rewards in return. This isn’t always easy, but if you practice each and every day starting with the little things, it will eventually become a part of your life and remember to start with being grateful for what you already have.

Secret #2 – A Goal and Purpose in Life

Have a purpose in life and working towards that purpose is the secret to a happy life. We as human beings are programmed to set goals and using that skill to define our life purpose will put you on the road to a fulfilled life. If you examined some of the most successful people in the world, they would tell you that they know what they want, they know the price to pay for it and they make a habit at setting goals daily. Without goals you float thru life but with goals, you soar thru the air like an arrow with focus, power and heading straight towards your target.

Secret #3 – Take Charge of Your Life

You cannot change the past so take charge of your life and change your future. You have the power to master your own fate and orientate your life towards as positive and purposeful future. You just have to decide to do so. Stop blaming other for your problems and work towards freeing yourself of negative emotions: fear, self pity, shame and anger. The more responsibility you take for yourself and your actions, the more in charge of your life you will be.

Secret #4 – Live each day as it was your last

We operate 96% of our lives on autopilot. Doing the same actions we have done each day before. The secret to a fulfilled life is breaking out of those habits and finding opportunities to experience life everyday. When you expand your universe and venture out to other places, you open up the possibility for new experiences and new adventures. You cannot create new experiences sitting around waiting for something to happen. You need to change your environment in order to change your results. If you continue to do the same thing, each day in the same manner, you will always get the same results. Remove the routine of your life and try something new.

Secret #5 – Experiences in the 9 critical areas

The old Chinese masters identified 9 areas in your life that need to be tended to and nurtured in order to live a healthy, happy and prosperous life, they are as follows:

Spirituality, Helpful People and Travel Children, Creativity and Entertainment Wisdom, Self Knowledge and Calm Center of Good Fortune and Gratitude Marriage, Relationships and Partnerships Wealth, Prosperity and Self Worth Fame, Reputation and Social Life Health, Family and Community Career, Life Mission and Individuality Those that are fulfilled have addressed their needs in all of these areas. There is no defined formula or one size fits all approach to finding balance, those that are fulfilled have more positive experiences in many areas of their life rather than just focus on only one.

Secret # 6 – Good Health

Your body is your temple and to live a fulfilled life, you must experience good health so be sure to take care of yourself with proper diet, exercise and personal development. Taken care of yourself will energize you to take the necessary actions to reach all of your goals. You want to make sure you are feeding your body and feeding your mind each and every day to remain sharp, focused and motivated.

Be In Bliss All The Time Through Finding Your Life Purpose

271029_three-way_routeWhat is life if it is not lived, lived well, and lived with purpose? How many people randomly go through their lives without giving much thought to what they are doing here on this planet or what they should, perhaps, be doing?

While it may take some time to perform the kind of introspective self examination required to discover your life purpose, it is time well spent, because living your life with purpose increases the value of that life exponentially. Every minute that you spend living with purpose is a minute valued and appreciated, utilized and lived fully.

Why should you devote the time to focusing on and discovering your life purpose? Let us count the ways . . .

1. Discovering the life purpose that is already buried deep within you can make all the difference in the quality of your life. It can re-awaken your zest for living, get you excited about every day and what it will bring, invigorate you to live each day to the fullest, and inspire you to be your very best.

2. Where now you are feeling restless and uncertain, knowing your life purpose will give you direction and focus. Every activity you engage in, each task you decide to take on, the skills you decide to learn, the courses you take, and the decisions you make will all have a common theme that validates your choices based on your underlying (or overriding, depending on how you approach it) life purpose.

3. Having a life purpose and knowing your life purpose brings passion and joy to your life. Living a life without happiness is such a waste. But living a life with purpose is the very definition of happiness.

4. Living your life with purpose will motivate you to take action, to plan out your days and weeks and months, and then to fulfil those plans to achieve something great and not just wander through each day like it is an effort to get through it. It will bring with it a realization that you are more than just your day-to-day activities and choices. You and your life are the sum of all these activities and choices, and each one is a building block in the construction of your life work.

5. Knowing your life purpose will clarify your priorities. Suddenly, with a big passion and goal to pursue, you will have a measuring stick by which you can judge and evaluate everything else. It will help you make easier and wiser decisions about what to do and what not to do and what to do first even on a daily basis. It will cause you to focus on the important things of life, not just the urgent things. It will help you make better choices.

So what are you waiting for? Don’t just stumble through life, living without purpose or meaning. Take the time to focus on you and your dreams, desires, passions, and motivations and do the introspective work it will take to identify and articulate your life purpose! It will very literally change your life! For more information please visit www.Finding-Your-Life-Purpose.com

Conscious Business: How Vulnerability Helps Your Business Grow

827451_sunflower_funIf you’re reading this right now, it’s pretty safe for me to assume that you are (or want to be) an entrepreneur. You’re likely filled with creative ideas and numerous ways in which you want to share your gifts with the world while getting paid well. This, after all, is part of what makes you a conscious entrepreneur… you want to make money AND make a difference, big time!

One of the characteristics you may possess as a conscious business owner is strength. I know this is true for me. I’ve been through so much in my business that I have acquired a tremendous amount of strength, especially during the times of adversity. Let’s face it, it takes strength to wake up everyday and pursue your dream when the odds look like they’re stacked against you. It takes strength to stay focused on your goals when life throws you a curve ball. It takes strength to stay true to who you are, when other people pile their expectations on you. It takes strength to endure in what can be a very challenging and uncomfortable journey at times. But, as an entrepreneur, you wouldn’t have it any other way.

However, strength (as we commonly think of it) is an illusion. And, this is the next gift I want to share with you from Las Vegas.

Gift #2: Your strength comes from your vulnerability.

When I arrived in Las Vegas recently, my colleagues would never have guessed what was going on inside of me. On the outside, it was apparent that I’m experiencing a lot of success: my book The Freedom Formula was just released, my new website was launched, my clients are making great strides, I recently hired four new team members to help manage the growth in my business, I have a clear vision of the next phase of my company…. I’m living in the “sweet spot” where gifts are manifesting every single day in surprising and awesome ways.

You’d think my feelings of strength and confidence would also be at an all time high. You’d think I would have bound up to the front of the room when it was my turn to share and rave about all of the great things happening to and through me. Now, I certainly could have played that role when I was speaking to my colleagues, but something inside me knew I had to be brutally honest with myself, and with them. And, so I proceeded to share some of the “wins” I was experiencing… and then proceeded to be completely vulnerable (as I’m being right here, right now, with you) and share with them that my confidence felt like it was plummeting. After they picked their jaws up off the floor from the shock of my statement, they gently asked me to tell them more about what was going on. And, I did.

I shared the struggles, fears, doubts and challenges that were surfacing along with my victories and successes. I allowed myself to let go of any feeling of how I “should” be and showed up exactly how I was in that moment. And, as a result of being vulnerable with my trusted colleagues, we all engaged in a meaningful discussion about the common challenges we (as entrepreneurs) face. The challenges we discussed were not about the external aspects of our business like marketing, systems, websites, strategy, etc. Rather, the discussions were around our spiritual connection, mission, mindset, passion, purpose and our desire to EXPERIENCE ourselves at our best THROUGH our business.

Somewhere in the middle of our deep conversation, I could feel my confidence and strength being restored. All I needed was to be authentic, honest and vulnerable with my trusted colleagues. And, allow myself to receive the abundant gifts that came forth from our deep conversation. What I discovered is that I wasn’t alone in my feelings of fear and doubt. And, that all of us (at one time or another) face these doubts in order to move through them.

I think where entrepreneurs get in a real “pickle” is when they feel they always have to show their strength; when they force themselves to appear like they “have it all together”; when they don’t have a space to simply BE and SHARE their truth.

So, I invite you to create safe and sacred relationships with colleagues you know, like and trust. And when your feelings of fear and doubt begin to surface, rather than willing or forcing your way through it, allow yourself to be authentic, honest and vulnerable. It is in THAT space where you’ll receive the abundant gifts that arise around and within you the moment you BE exactly who you are.

Motivation & The Blues!

960054_lilly_dot_comWhile I like to work swiftly with clients toward their outcome, I’ve never been one for what I call the ‘double jeopardy high-five’ motivational approach. Too much of the ‘wahooooooo!’ or ‘Yaaaay goferit!’ makes me want to puke.

I’ve certainly worked with clients who’ve come to me after seeing a ‘wahooo’ coach or attending a ‘wahooo’ seminar or training. And while the initial effect for them was ‘yay!’, like an old plaster peeling off round the edges, they soon plummeted down to earth with a rough bump.

I remember one corporate client telling me she felt more inadequate and unskilled than she did before the seminar. Clearly she was doing something wrong for the seminar not to have worked… which made her feel even worse about herself. Oh pleeeez!

Of course it hadn’t worked because her emotional, psychological and cognitive state was such that she was in a change process. Precipitous ‘wahooo-ing’ lays double-whipped cream over a cake that’s not yet been cooked. Pretty sloppy!

Another corporate client was very clear about what happened. He said he realised he needed to stop papering over cracks and encouraging other people to do so too. When we worked with what he needed it was time out for reflection and chilling as a way forward from his blues.

Down time rather than high up time which, of course, could come later if he chose.

Times of aliveness and dormant times are in fact the rhythm of nature. To our cost, we’ve discovered we’ve impoverished soil by continuously growing on it with artificial fertilisers. Just like the earth, we need time out to reconstitute and develop our potential.

So, be sure your motivation isn’t the hype type which pops like a balloon at the first pin it comes across. Motivation comes from purpose, passion & power… and the process of growth within.

So, what to do if you’re motivation has got up and gone? Here’s some tips…

***Accept it for now!***

It’s normal to have ups and downs. It’s all part of being human… and I just don’t believe anyone who says they’re never down. What?! Never?! If you tell yourself it’s OK and it’s just for now, you’ll be surprised at the inner relief and relaxation you’ll feel.

***Nourish Yourself***

This is a time for pampering. So go for fragrant baths, massage, or listening to inspirational music, or visiting an art gallery. Draw, paint, walk, write, dance… Do whatever it takes for excellent care of you, to give yourself grade A nourishment during this fallow time

***Monitor Your Language***

It’s so easy to fall into talking with negativity and self-abuse language. So monitor what you say to others and, most importantly, what you say to yourself! When you’ve caught yourself at it, reframe what you’ve said. Like, ‘I’m learning to write more courageously’ rather than ‘My writing’s a pile of doo-doo!’

***Vision Buddy***

And, if you haven’t done so already, entrust your vision of how you want things to be to a great buddy. Ask them to gently remind you from time to time what you’re working towards with encouragement and love. Because even in the down time you need to be reminded you’re still moving forward however static it feels!

Then, as all things pass, so will the Summertime Blues. And, like a butterfly emerging from a cocoon, you too can spread your wings newly invigorated and motivated from within.

Your Exhaustion is Really Inner Critic FEAR

458041_lights___ Many people come to me complaining that they’re tired, exhausted, unable to find balance in their life. Some have incredibly busy schedules and others live a life of casual leisure. Yet, both are exhausted. I also know people who have either busy or leisurely schedules who are not tired, they are full of energy and rarely, if ever, tire. What’s the difference?

I’ve discovered that those in the chronically tired camp live ‘should be’ lives. They fear they are not good, smart, talented or whatever enough to live life centered in the truth of who they are, on their terms so they adopt a way of life that meets with who they think they’re supposed to be, what they’re supposed to do and have. One can get very good at living a ‘should be’ life but it is exhausting. I takes a lot of work to live contrary to your natural preferences and talents; against your purpose. It is a life spent swimming upstream – and that’s exhausting!

“Fear is static that prevents me from hearing myself.” Samuel Butler

Those who live authentically, aligned with their purpose, enjoy a seemingly inexhaustible source of energy. Aligned with purpose, energy is always there to do whatever inspires you. You never get tired, and each day is met with a sense of joy. No matter how busy, days unfold effortlessly, a flow with the stream of life.

If you are exhausted, too tired to create you are really stuck in Finding Excuses And Reasons (F.E.A.R.) why you cannot honor and give voice to your authentic self, your purpose and unique abilities that are your birthright. If you are giving power to that monkey minded Inner Critic chatter telling you that you cannot do or express what your heart is calling you to create you deplete your energy source, your Inner Being, Higher Self or what I playfully call the Wizard within. If you think too much and fail to take action, fear makes its home within you. You become exhausted as you work against your natural flow. You stand still in your journey to actualize and express your full potential.

“The more you lose yourself in something bigger than yourself, the more energy you will have.” – Norman Vincent Peale

Go from tired to inspired by giving power to the Inner Being voice within you. This is the voice that knows you by heart, knows your personal passions and greatest desires. Ask what your Inner Being wants to do and create and take one step in that direction. Then take another step. And another. Soon you will be living your life authentically, in alignment with what you are here to be, do and have. You will have turned around to flow easily with the stream instead of paddling exhaustively against it.

“I’m so tired, but I can’t sleep…standing on the edge of something much too deep…funny how I feel so much but cannot say a word…we are screaming inside, oh, but we can’t be heard…so afraid to love you, more afraid to lose…clinging to a past” – Sarah McLachlan

Conscious Business: Is “Enough”, Enough?

480790_nasturtium_on_white“The million” honestly doesn’t mean anything in a business until you have a better whole view of the business; its mission, vision, purpose, and financials.. and an idea of the priorities and lifestyle vision of the business owner.

Many of you feel like you “should” hit the million-dollar mark because that’s what you see other people doing, (and we all know how over-marketed and over-hyped that is so I’ll spare you any more of that).

The truth is if a $75,000 business serves your mission, vision, purpose and expenses just fine and you are HAPPY with that, there’s no reason to grow to a million if you don’t want to. Striving for someone else’s dream only leaves you feeling exhausted, unfulfilled and “less than” who you truly are. And, that’s not what conscious entrepreneurship is about… it’s about doing what’s right for YOU, right now to fulfill your purpose and mission here on earth, and feel JOY while doing so. There is no where to “get,” it’s about the journey of your soul’s expression through your business, and your life.

Which brings me to the second part of the answer to my colleague’s “enough is enough” question. It became clear to me that “enough will be enough” when I see a change in how business is conducted in the United States and the world… where business actually becomes the way in which positive change comes about.

After all, commerce is what makes much of the world work (or not work). So, if we can make a change from the bottom-up… from small businesses just like yours to massive corporations… and truly have a unified model for conscious business to contribute to our evolution… THEN enough will be enough for me.

I’ve been telling people that I’m happily obsessed with the work I feel I’ve been called here to do for right now. Believe me, if it were up to my rational thinking mind, I wouldn’t be doing half the things I’m doing right now. I’d be spending a lot more time doing nothing; which is exactly the balancing act I’m figuring out for myself. How do I pursue the passionate mission I’ve been called to, while taking extreme care of myself?

There is so much change to occur in our world as we evolve into a new reality, that I sometimes feel like I have to keep going full steam ahead because the only time it’ll be enough is when I SEE large-scale change, (rather than destruction and constriction) when it comes to business… especially in the U.S.

But, full steam ahead doesn’t work for very long if I haven’t given myself what I need at a deep level to keep going. And, so my own journey continues as I ongoingly reflect on this question of “enough is enough.” And, I do my best to be gentle with myself as I discover how to continue on my mission of changing the face of business in the world, while keeping myself nourished, nurtured, relaxed, peaceful, joyful and happy all the while.

It’s an exciting journey, indeed… one I’m grateful to be sharing with you.
