1195064_birch_groveMost of us construct our self-image from the garbage that we collect in ourminds over time, versus the spirit in our souls. That we look to our past data as a road map for our present is not so unusual, considering we spend so much time with our thoughts and so little time connected to our soul. So, it would stand to reason that we rely on and believe in that part of us that seems to be more of a constant; whether positive or negative, because it is what we know, it’s our pillow of comfort.

Regardless of how we relate to it, our self-image serves us, good or bad, right or wrong. The consequence of our self-image is not in our past itself but in our interpretation of the actual past events. The seed we plant in our memory bank is the data that we bring forth into our present, each and every day of our lives. It is our interpretation of this data that plays a major role in who we are and who we become. We shape our perception of reality and how we function in the world that we create.

We’ve already determined that the interpretation of our past events, plays a key role in the development of our self-image. Based on this idea, have you ever thought whether or not your interpretation of these events are accurate or just your own self-created reality? To that end, the self-image that you create is true. Hence, you make decisions and live your life based on that false truth.

We accept that what we believe to be true, is true because we create these facts in our own mind. But do we take the time and do the soul searching necessary to determine if there is in fact, any personal truth to our self-created beliefs? Considering these supposed truths are actually based on our own interpretation of events, how accurate are they really? If we can look beyond this concept, we begin to realize that the only true constant, which is at the core of who we are, is not the self-image created by our thoughts but our soul.

The self-image that we tend to create for ourselves is based on years of events, data, memories and experiences. Who’s to say that our interpretation of these events is accurate in regard to the self-image that we’ve created? Think for a moment, if it happened in your life, it was your event and your experience. Based on this fact you interpreted the data in your mind based on how you believe this event unfolded. There are no witnesses, no judge or jury to confirm your data or assessment. So, just how accurate is this interpretation you’ve made?

For many of us, we consistently make present decisions based on past related data, without even being aware that we have done so. You determine what you see and what you believe based on your interpretation of your past experiences. As a result, our present decisions are based on past events and what we can expect to realize at best, is what I refer to as “limited thinking.” How you interpret your past experiences, has everything to do with how you see the world and yourself in it.

I’ve mentioned before, that I refer to this as living on “automatic pilot.” The interpretation we make actually does create a false reality based on the data that we invite into our present. Anais Nin once said “we don’t see the world as it is, rather as we are.” And so, based on our own perception of reality, we create our self-image as we move through life.

By simply being aware of this “automatic pilot” behavior, we can actually take back control of our lives by not making decisions in the now, based on the data of past based events. You have the power to release yourself from this prison and empower yourself to create your life as it was meant to be lived. By simply being aware of your thoughts and behavior, you can shift from limited to unlimited thinking, thus creating unlimited possibilities in your life.

It begins with finding the courage to sit down and look at your life, who you are and where you’re going. Once you are able to accomplish this, you are ready to make the changes of “being aware,” which will allow you to take back control of your life.
