All for One Has Failed One for All

265794_eye4Recall the Three Musketeers battle cry: “All for one and one for all”? Today our modern economic system serves half this axiom – “All for one.” Our system is at full production concentrating wealth in unprecedented measure. As power shifts from the many to the few “all” pay the price. The single greatest cause of the worldwide economic unraveling is our propensity for consolidating power and concentrating wealth. The “system” now functions to elevate a few at the expense of many.

We find ourselves in the midst of the most challenging economic times since the Great Depression. Even in the “depression” though, the world kept spinning, the sun rose each day, men and women married, babies were born, people started businesses – life went on. Those who focused on life’s simple pleasures remained resilient and perhaps found joy even in the most trying of times. Faith in a brighter tomorrow carried the day – like it always does.

So here we are. To move forward, to recover, to prosper we must choose anew. We must expose the error of our ways and act purposely and deliberately knowing we, all of us, have the power to change this world now. We must choose a new future, a new reality, a new experience. Let me explain…

The rich and powerful see the writing on the wall – “the powers that be” are taking unprecedented steps (committing trillions of borrowed dollars) to secure the system – a system that, unless fundamentally altered, will continue to disenfranchise the masses and in the end destroy itself. We have arrived again at the truism: “Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” We will continue to experience this trial until we learn the lesson.

We overlook the ultimate solution to this economic challenge because we are so engrossed in the problem we cannot, or dare not, step back to seek and embrace real change. Though we clamor for change, truly we fear it. We cling to the known until, overcome by events, we are swept up by a tide. The only thing people like better than the way things are is the way things were.

We didn’t arrive at this predicament over night. Neither Rome nor our economic system, were built in a day. At the end of World War II, by necessity the United States stepped in to restore a shattered system. As could be predicted, however, the arrogance of power gave way to the ingenuity of greed. We began to build a system serving the basest desires of those bold and brazen enough to compete for the prize.

Instead of creating and cooperating, sharing and serving we chose to compete and contest, hoard and dominate. We failed to have faith in possibility, a dream of what could be. Instead we became convinced we had to fight for our fair share of what was.

America, the land of opportunity, was built on the power of dreams and the promise of prosperity to those who seized the day, took responsibility for themselves and found a way to add value to others’ lives. When we lost our sight, our vision, our dream, we settled into the mud and mire of the struggle. Scaling back our aspirations sacrificed our freedom and we opened the door for those who seek to consolidate power.

For a sense of security and a modicum of comfort we willingly forfeit our dreams. Without motive the masses succumb to the allure of competitors seizing opportunity and consolidating power. What we have been seeing and experiencing for the past 65 years is a methodical consolidation of power – consolidation of wealth. This centralization of wealth and power inevitably led to the excesses and the greed and corruption of this debt bubble. We made our bed and must lie in it.

To chart a new course we have to energize the many. Not through a welfare state, but by promoting fair, just free enterprise and sound social policies. We cannot continue centralizing wealth but must rather work to empower people. The goal: for people to take responsibility for themselves and once again dream grand dreams and pursue splendid opportunities.

If we continue to choose the status quo, we will decline as a nation and a culture. It is time to truly fulfill the axiom: “All for one, and one for all.”

An Economy Over the Edge

737910_color-tunnel_12The economy has gone over the edge. Casualties are mounting; the mass accelerates as it plummets. Don’t mistake the rushing wind of the freefall as an assurance the worst is behind us – rather prepare for the impact ahead. Fundamentally, despite all the rhetoric to the contrary, we have stayed the course. We have fallen victim to avarice and arrogance. Only a concerted effort by the people can set a new course and make things right.

Up till now, we have been lost in a morass of flagrant indecision. We turn to our political leaders, the giants of industry and the titans of finance and we find them scouring financial wreckage for any loot they can secure. They undoubtedly will ensure their survival and comfort. For the citizens, however, the powers-that-be have no idea what to do.

We have to realize collectively we have taken the wrong road. We must accept full and total responsibility for the crash, accept the pain, buckle down to the sacrifice this will take to correct and change direction. In changing direction we must seek wisdom to guide our way. We must act with courage to overcome fear. We must leverage our strengths, not our finances. We are a nation of talented, capable, people. Only when we come to recognize that by pulling together will we all benefit – will we all succeed.

Ultimately this challenge, this daunting task ahead, comes down to a measure of will. Do we desire to assume responsibility for our lives, chart a new course, and usher in a new birth of freedom? Or rather, shall we will to sit idly by, collect our government checks, complain at every opportunity, and await directions from those more bold to act, more daring to succeed, and more free to choose?

This economic morass offers us an unprecedented opportunity to begin anew. Greed, corruption, and wanton consumption are sacrifices at an idol’s alter. This crisis is an opportunity to redefine ourselves, our lives, our purpose, and our nation. It is up to us to seize the opportunity.

The voice of wisdom whispers to us to choose – let’s recognize the promise of this life and fulfill the potential of our gifts during this, the challenge of our time. Let us dream a new dream, set a new course, and abandon the ill-fated wreck.

This setback, as great as it is, need not define our lives, nor relegate this nation to the trash heap of history. Only arrogance and fear can do that. Though we have expressed both in spades, now is the opportunity to make up for lost time. Let’s re-imagine our world and make a new dream come true. In the midst of the freefall let’s spread our wings and fly.

Is the Recession Over?

By Joe Blogger

The state of the economy has been in question for years. We had many warning signs but they were not heeded in the past. When thousands upon thousands of people were losing their jobs in certain states, this should have raised a red flag. Until the unemployment rate decreases for the states that have the highest rates, we are still in a recession.

Some of what most Americans thought were the most secure companies have closed their doors and that is not a good sign. You can be classified as a upper class citizen because of the size of your paycheck one day and below poverty level within a matter of days after losing your job. Think about this, years ago it was a stigma placed on people that had to use food stamps for the purchase of food. Well, it is not that way anymore. Just that change of thought pattern regarding food stamps, speaks recession.

Take a look at the housing market, we have heard of the massive number of individuals that are in foreclosure and the list just keeps getting longer. The stimulus package was not enough to have a major positive impact on the economy. Years ago, people jumped at the opportunity to purchase a home. Now, it is considered an unwise decision to purchase a home that you may not have the money to pay for in the near future.

Bankrutpcy is a viable option for those that would not even consider it. You were frowned upon if you had to declare chapter 13 or 11. There are millions of households that cannot afford to pay the high insurance health insurance premiums that are being offered by employers. When it may cost a family of 4 over eight hundred dollars a month for a basic HMO policy, the recession is still here.

Parents would brag about the money they were saving for their children’s college fund. That is quickly becoming a thing of the past. It is unfortunate when Johnnie’s college fund must be used to pay the mortgage. With gas prices out of control, many are only driving to places that they really need to go. The days of the long Sunday afternoon drives are over. For the individuals that have the larger luxury SUV’s are contemplating trading them in for smaller vehicles that are good on gas. The use of public transportation in the commute to work is becoming more of a first choice instead of the last resort.

It is not an area of your life that the recession has not touched. Think of the senior citizen’s that make the choice each month not to pay for their medicine in order to pay rent or mortgage. The signs of the recession is being shown on the faces of small businesses that depended on the purchase power of the local residents. Since most household’s are cutting back on luxury items, most small businesses have to make the decision to downsize or to close. Just take a look at the sections of your neighborhood that had thriving businesses 10 years ago. Are those same businesses still open?

No the recession is not over. There are no quick fixes for the state of the economy this time. Unless someone comes up with a plan that will change the global economy, the recession will be here for many years to come.

Green Fashion Designer

By Ezra Drissman

The new millennium marked significant changes and twists in people’s lifestyle and preference especially in fashion and trend. In this vital industry, one very relevant breakthrough is the incorporation of environmental awareness and protection in most clothing lines in the fashion business and it has definitely inspired innumerable designers and students of fashion schools to adapt the concept of fashion with a conscience in their masterpieces. Nowadays and in the coming years, career opportunities are opening its thresholds to green fashion designers to make a pivotal difference in the clothing realm as well as promoting eco-friendly merchandises.

The career outlook for a green fashion designer is good. They make on average $42-$87 thousand a year.

Many venues of fashion and clothing are having endless modeling shows and advertisements glorifying the ingenuity of the crafts of green fashion designers and their endeavors are definitely successful. What is a green fashion designer?

The name itself implies that incredible combination of the green ideals with the world of fashion resulting to a revolutionary career or professional perfectly known as green fashion designer. Young artists in this field are making use of natural resources such as bamboos, organic cottons or other similar fibers in their series of clothesline or collections. Most importantly, this is a trend that has not only started in small-scale businesses but has likewise invaded big and known enterprises in the milieu.

Green fashion design concept is actually not a new and fresh perspective since many fashion designers have already adapted this style or concept especially those in agricultural countries. However, the good thing that happened in this particular trend is that many fashion icons and big companies are collaborating together in order to promote and advocate clothes which are eco-friendly in style and content. How do you become a green fashion designer?

Another salient difference in the trend now is that most fashion schools that train and educate potential fashion designers are including the green concept into their very own curriculum. Thus, for those who aim to succeed and establish a promising career as a green fashion designer, an internship program is very necessary to jump start their pursuit. Most key figures in the fashion world would attest to the importance of getting into an internship first before finally plunging into the deep. This is likewise necessary for green fashion designers where they could add more knowledge and experience to their crafts especially in making use of natural resources for their clothes. Thus aside from the conventional degrees and courses you will gain from studying in accredited fashion schools, it is necessary to add more creativity and resourcefulness in finding the right material for your green collection.

People are not always indifferent in new changes and innovations especially if it benefits the world and the ailing nature. For people and aspiring candidates to become green fashion designers, the passion for their craft and awareness and love of nature are two salient components that would definitely lead them to their fulfillment in their crafts.

3 Top Trends for Biz Success (Are You On Top of Them?)

By Lani and Allen Voivod

As small business owners, it’s all too easy for us to get so immersed in the daily planning and producing of projects and profits that we forget to step back and take a look at the Bigger Picture of what’s going on “in the field,” as they say.

So take a minute out of – or add a minute into – your day’s to-do’s and get hip to three of the top trends that require your attention, ASAP. Not only will you feel smarter, but the information will help you:

  • Stay relevant and competitive.
  • Adjust your products, services, practices, and policies accordingly.
  • Make better decisions about what to do with your time and resources.

And away we go!

Trend #1: The Rise of the Lifestyle Entrepreneur

Over the last few years, we’ve seen the illusion of the “safe” corporate job get completely annihilated. We’ve seen retirement plans disappear, corporate greed get outed, and the “gentleman’s handshake” between dedicated employees who invest 10 – 30 years into their company’s goals and profits go the way of the dodo bird.

Enter the Lifestyle Entrepreneur. Creative, determined individuals who play to their own strengths, take advantage of the tools and resources available, and design their businesses to support their own passions, vision, and lifestyle goals, instead of designing a business that rules their lives.

What are some of the tools, signs, and secret weapons of the?

  • Leveraged business models, like membership sites
  • Ultra-niche products and services that can be automated
  • Using Virtual Assistants instead of employees
  • Driving traffic to online products and services that require little or no human intervention

With the Internet, every single business and industry has the capacity to create some passive money portals around their products and services. It’s not only possible – more and more, it’s expected! Which means even multi-million-dollar companies can take advantage of some or all of the savvy strategies of the Lifestyle Entrepreneur.

Trend #2: “Kindred” Creation

It’s funny, most people assume moving business online means the death of personal connections. The irony is, to be successful online, you have to get in tune and in touch with what your Target Market and Ideal Audience wants more than ever before. You have to talk how they talk, hang out where they hang out, and make offers they find Irresistible. You have to find your Kindreds. Foster and nurture relationships. Find people who think like you do, have similar or complementary outlooks, etc.

Mega-marketer Dan Kennedy calls these folks your “Herd.” Marketing guru and author Seth Godin calls them your “Tribe.” We prefer Kindreds, because it sounds more human. And the human connection is what it’s all about.

Trend #3: The Great Social Divide

Essentially, there are those who have jumped (or are jumping) into the social marketing game, and those who haven’t (and won’t). Don’t be in the second group.

If you’re a business owner who sincerely wants to be in business five years from now, 2009 is the year you have to take the plunge into the social networking realm. It can be crude at first, but you have to budget some time and resources to get better and fold in this stuff a little at a time.

Right now, very few people (if any) are using all the vehicles perfectly, so you don’t have to worry about what’s the “right way” or the “wrong way.” The only “wrong way” is to end 2009 without some sort of presence on the top-tier social marketing sites, at the very least: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn. And don’t forget that old dinosaur of interactive, conversational communications: BLOGGING. It’s still very much a respected VIP at the social marketing party – mostly because it can serve as your aggregate, your home base, your one-stop connection shop.

Set up a bare-minimum strategy. Learn a little about one of these every month, or every other month. Tools and applications are being developed even as we speak at mind blowing rates.

Your competition is learning this stuff. What’s more, your Target Market is looking for you – or will be looking for you – in these forums. They’re looking to connect, see who you really are, what you and your business are thinking about…what’s behind the curtain, so to speak.

If you’re not there when they want to make that connection or do their research, they’ll move on to whoever is willing to share their behind-the-scenes personality in authentic ways.

Ultimately, the human need for connection is fueling the social media explosion, and there will be thousands more sites and opportunities popping up in 2009 and beyond.

Be on the playing field when the pitch is thrown.

So there you have them – three top biz trends for 2009. May you use them to fuel your business success, this year and for many years to come!

Listening to YourSELF

There’s been something missing from the business success principles that have been taught for decades. When you’re on a path of growth and expansion in your business, the strategies, tactics and principles you learn are only HALF of what you need to know. I’m sure you’ve been to many seminars, read lots of books and researched online to learn how to market your business, use social media, create information products, leverage multiple streams of income, hire a team, create systems, increase your fees, do joint ventures, create events, etc.

I’ve done the same thing. I’ve invested more money than I care to admit to learn how to grow my business. And, I grew my business to a point that many would consider incredibly successful. But, what I didn’t realize is that I was growing the business on a cracked foundation. Why? Because I listened to others more than I listened to myself. I tried to model others, more than I created a unique model that worked for me. I did what I thought I should do rather than what was 100% right for me and my life. I allowed some of my decisions to be made from my ego, rather than my heart.

New Trend: Workout Vacation

By Jason Kozma

More and more Americans are using their hard-earned vacations to get healthy and fit. In fact, fitness vacations are a hot trend – with Pilates replacing pina coladas and personal trainers serving as your tour guides. It makes sense, because people and especially women want to take better care of themselves. But the key to getting the maximum benefits is to prepare yourself to work as hard as you can, learn a new way to eat and exercise so when you come home the fat keeps coming off and stays off long-term.

Experts say that jump-starting a new fitness regime is actually easier on vacation because you are not tempted by a full refrigerator or a cookie jar in the kitchen. Your trainer will be able to help you plam your meals and make better food choices – information which will help you take off pounds and keep them off.

Here are a few tips for a successful fitness vacation:

Want to be a Success? Change Your Life

Is there some aspect of you or your life with which you’re not happy? Are you having difficulty achieving the kind of success you would really like to achieve – whether that’s in business, your career or your personal or sporting life? In other words, would you like to be e bigger success than you are at present? Well, if you want to be successful and happy, you’re going to have to change your behaviour. You’re going to have to take new action. As a client said to me recently, “I decided that, if I wanted to change my life, I had to change my life!”

Let me explain. I first met Billy three years ago. At the time, he was seriously stressed about his job, he suffered from chronic lower back pain, was constantly tired and, as a result, his home life was, to say the very least, less than satisfactory. More recently, Billy spent three days with me in my part of the world, the French Alps. It was the fourth time we’d worked together in three years. In those three years, he’d been promoted to what would potentially be an even more stressful job – right at the very top of his organization. His back problems had vanished and, in fact, he told me he could now do thirty minutes on his local gym’s rowing machine, a couple of times a week – beforehand, he couldn’t even bend down to sit on the rowing machine. He’d also just booked a three week holiday for himself and his family, having spent ten days on holiday at Easter – he, his wife and children were having a great time.

When we first met, I had explained to Billy that the normal adult mind is in constant turmoil – it is “entertained” by roughly 50,000 random thoughts each day. You know the kind of useless stuff – “I wish this guy would hurry up or I’ll be late for my next meeting!” “I wish I was on the beach, instead of the office, it’s such a lovely day!” “I don’t know if I unplugged the toaster!” “I really am too shy to walk up to that guy and say what I feel!” And, the ones that wake you at four o’clock in the morning “What if I don’t get that sale, will I be out of a job, will I lose my house, what will happen the kids?” (‘Cos the ones at four o’clock in the morning often take us on a train of thought to imaginary ruin – more like an express train to hell!).

I also explained that Billy’s subconscious mind was even more distracted – it’s just that, because it’s subconscious, he’d never be aware of the fact that, like all normal adults, his subconscious mind was incapable of paying attention to the here and now, the task in hand, obsessed, as it was, by his childhood conditioning, the snapshots of his formative years which all normal minds dwell on subconsciously. As a result, it was little wonder that he was stressed – the World Health Organization believes stress will be the biggest killer of the 21st century. It was little wonder that he’d been crucified by lower back pain for years – your mental state is at the root of most, if not all, physical illness. And, certainly, you wouldn’t have to be a genius to work out why his home life was spinning out of control.

But Billy not only understood, as most of my clients do, the importance of changing his mind – he actually put it into daily practice – hence, the results that he could so excitedly tell me about. Billy and I worked together to enable him stop the random noise in his head, to enable him calm his mind. Most importantly, Billy practiced and learned how to pay more of his attention to the here and now, dragging his subconscious mind’s attention away from the past and enabling him be more focused on the task in hand. Billy understood that, when you’re more present, you have more presence and that makes you more impressive to the normal people around you. As a result, he’d been handpicked for his new corporate role – without even realising that he might have been in the running – he was more focused on doing just what he was supposed to be doing.

In short, Billy learned how to meditate. And it made such a practical difference in his life that he committed not just to doing it every day – but to doing it for one hour solid every morning. He told me that he realised that if he wanted to change his life, he needed to change his daily life first – get up at six o’clock instead of seven – go to bed at ten o’clock instead of eleven.

If you’re not the success you want to be, your life is not going to change without you doing something practical about it. If your life doesn’t turn you on, you’re doing something wrong – you’re going to have to do something right instead. You’re going to have to find a way to turn yourself on – to focus your attention in the here and now – so that you will stop paying attention to useless thought and so that your subconscious will stop tripping up your today by focusing on your yesterdays. Your success – your effortless success – is entirely within your own control – but you’re going to have to act.
