How To Cure Panic Attacks

I had panic attacks on a regular basis for six years! I wish I had known then how easy it is to cure panic attacks once you know how.

A little background is needed here.

Panic and anxiety are very much the same. Not exactly, however, and they definitely vary in intensity.

Anxiety is a condition of apprehension caused by being afraid of a threat, imagined or real.

It is one of our most common emotions. It seems that everybody goes through it at different levels, over different things, and at different times in their life.

That’s anxiety. It’s fear. That’s pretty straightforward.

This whole thing is wrapped up in fear. It’s about fear and it’s caused by fear.

And fear is the “key” to this problem. To cure panic attacks it is necessary to get rid of the fear of the attacks returning.

It’s easy to learn not to fear panic attacks. I’ll bet you are glad to hear that.

Toward the end of my six year sojourn through the dark valley of anxiety and panic attacks I came up with a method that enabled me to shed my fear of the attacks.

I’ll never forget that day. What I did amounted to a subtle “shift” in my thinking in regards to panic attacks.

It kind of went this way (it’s been 30 years). I realized that I had been suffering through these attacks now for six years! Six long years.

I also recognized the fact that, although I had gone through hundreds of these attacks, I hadn’t been harmed, at least not physically, that I could see.

When I combined that fact with the regret that so much time and energy had been wasted, the net result, for me, intellectually, and in my gut, was that my fear of the attacks was replaced with anger.

Right then and there, in the absence of fear of these attacks I could feel their pull on me release and I knew they would never be back. That was thirty years ago and they have not returned.

I’m NOT recommending that you have to do it this way. The way I did it was created for me, by myself, through my experiences, over a six year period, and, I feel like I got lucky.

Still, I learned one thing I will never forget, and that one thing is the solution.

Once again, if you want to know how to cure panic attacks, the solution is to get rid of the fear of those attacks.

All you have to do is know how to do and then just do it.

Fortunately there are programs available that will show you exactly how to do it for yourself.

You can have your life back.

Wealth Creation – Compassion and Giving

By Maria Rattray

She’s affectionately called ‘The Soup Lady’. Now well into her eighties, she can be seen in the central district of Canberra, every Friday night, giving free soup and blankets, not only to the homeless, but to anyone in need. She sees Canberra’s student population as a somewhat disadvantaged group, and so they too share in her offerings.

But let’s go back to many years ago, to a time when Stasia was a young woman. She fled Poland during the occupation in World War Two, losing everything, and arriving in Australia with her husband and two young sons. When her marriage failed, she was left to care for and rear, her two sons. Although a qualified nurse and nursing sister, her qualifications were not recognized in Australia and so, she was only able to gain work as a cleaner.

Many years back, in the seventies, when Stasia’s sons were teenagers, a young friend approached her with a view to asking her to help him set up a soup kitchen for the homeless. As one of her sons had been addicted to heroin, and she had been witness to the plight of the addicted, she agreed to do so, using some of the proceeds of her cleaning job to fund the project and using her kitchen for the soup-making. Nothing was donated, and yet for nine years, many were fed on the kindness and generosity of this amazing lady.

The young friend eventually married and left Canberra, but Stasia continued her mission alone, serving hundreds of people every Friday night, in Canberra. Canberra’s winters can be cold and daunting, but this did not deter Stasia. It was as if she had a contract to be there, winter chills or no winter chills, and she honoured that contract!

As time went by, word got out about Stasia and her work. In time local groups and clubs banded together to help her and contribute. A van was provided for her and local businesses helped with the produce, equipment, and other forms of assistance.

Rightfully, in 1996, Stasia was given the award of Citizen of the Year. In her eyes though, she is no hero, and when asked how long she would continue her work, she intimated that it would be until she died. In my mind I think that Stasia will have many years left to serve others.

Is it not strange that those who give, always manage to continue to give? They pay their bills, they give again and again to others, and yet, there is always some left over at the end of the day. Moreover, sunny and positive by nature, they tend to stay healthy and much fitter than others of their vintage.

So what can we learn from this wonderful lady? The message is clear, the picture even clearer. Stasia has an intuitive understanding and commitment to, the sanctity of life. Care and compassion are her yardsticks for living in a world where many of us have forgotten to serve, a world where many of us turn our heads and pretend that suffering is not on our door step, a world where the disadvantaged often remain so.

If we are to make this planet that we all share a better place, we can and must learn much from people such as Stasia. To do so, we must first assess our values, strengthen our commitment and resolve to being the best we can be, to be true to our integrity, and find utter joy and compassion in everyone who passes our way.

If we all took just one step along this journey, and tried to exemplify such qualities, what a wonderful world this would be!

Managing Adult ADD is Like Riding a Bike

You’ve no doubt felt at least a tinge of overwhelm as summer is drawing to a close. It’s back to school, back to the big projects at work, and back to life as we know it. And, dare I say it, stores have even begun busting out their holiday merchandise! Talk about pressure!

Fall is quite possibly the most stressful time of the year for adults with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD). You may even find yourself slipping away from the ADD management routines, structure, and systems that you’ve previously created.

I’ve been hearing from a lot of clients who are getting down on themselves because the transition from summer to fall has been more difficult than they anticipated.

With this in mind, I’d like to offer you the following reminder: Managing adult ADD is like riding a bike.

Remember when you learned to ride a bike?

The Truth About Being a Travel Writer

By Ryan Murdock

Ryan Murdock’s pursuit of travel literature has taken him to some of the world’s most unforgiving places, including Mongolia, Tibet, Nicaragua, and North Korea, by Russian jeep, motorcycle, dugout canoe, horse and camel. Please visit http://www.ryanmurdock.com to learn more about his adventures and to follow his Road Wisdom blog.

I’m often asked what it’s like to work as a professional travel writer. Is “the world’s best job” all it’s cracked up to be? What’s it really like on those assignments? What happens behind the scenes, when the “camera” is off?

I reply quite honestly that all travel consists of endless waiting, long tedious flights, and days of monotony broken by that one fleeting experience when it all comes together and you glimpse something larger than yourself. But they never believe me. I’m sure you won’t either. So instead of boring you with lofty thoughts, I’ll share one of those experiences from a recent assignment to Ireland that didn’t make it into the article…

Thinking Outside the Box

Do you think that Bill Gates thinks there’s a box? Or Warren Buffet? Do you think that Muhammad Ali thought there was a box? What about Sir Richard Branson? How do you think Tiger Woods or Roger Federer would feel if they thought that they had to operate inside ‘the box’.

Very often, I hear business leaders – I mean ‘normal’ business leaders, not the people whose names we all know – talk about ‘thinking outside the box’. This phrase is frequently used in business, whether it relates to problem solving or innovation. Lots of business people talk about it – very few ever rise to what is in fact not much of a challenge at all. What very few of them have realised is that there is no box!

Only special people, unusually successful people – in other words, not normal people – realise this fact. That’s why we all know their names – they stand head and shoulders above the rest of us.

There is no box – other than the box we create for ourselves. From a very early age, society and education fashion a box for us – and because we’re all in the box together, it seems OK. “Get yourself a good education” (Bill Gates dropped out of university) or “Get yourself a good job” (Richard Branson left school when he was sixteen and started Student magazine).

When you do get yourself a good job, you’re taught how to be a “team player” – that really means “Don’t do anything that would upset anyone else on the team, play by the rules and, for God’s sake, don’t do anything unusual or innovative.” And, of course, organisations have a “corporate culture” – that means “this is how we do things around here – conform”.

So the box – that you’ve effortlessly slid into – is all around you, supported by the mindless behaviour of all the other clones. And when I hear people talking about “thinking outside the box”, I know for a fact, that most of them never will.

Never mind “thinking outside the box” – what about living outside it?

Using Your Energy to Create Success

Your intentions, your expectations and your thoughts create your life. It’s the same for everybody – whether you’re stuck in a boring routine life or super-successful – the only difference between both ends of that particular spectrum is that highly successful people know how to use their mental energy.

Everything is made up of energy – you, your body, the chair you’re sitting on, the air you breathe, the trees, this planet, the universe. Your thoughts are energy and they have a measurable impact on all the energy that synthesizes together to create your life. Continue reading

Inspiration – It’s More Than A Good Idea!

It’s funny how the mind works. It loves making connections, detecting patterns and creating stories.

It’s the mind that generates inspiration – when the conditions are right. Looking at how we experience inspiration, there seem to be three levels. This brings me to a story of my own.

Recently I converted an old garden shed into a hen house. Most of the time, the project went well but every now and again I got stuck. What I needed then was some inspiration to lead me naturally to an elegant solution.

The technique I used was to form a clear vision of the end result I wanted and then leave the hen house and go and do something entirely different for a while. Meantime my unconscious mind would continue to quietly explore options in the mental background.

Are You Just Trying To Wait And Hang On?

Do you find yourself just trying to hang on and get through the recession? Perhaps you are waiting for things to turn around or something to happen (business partner make a decision, new clients to show up, reorganization at a job to work itself out) before you move forward?

If so, you’re not alone. Many people are playing the “hang in there” and waiting game. But here’s the thing – when you do that, you’re living life like the cat on an old poster of mine. The one where the cat is hanging from a tree branch by one paw and the caption says “Hang in there Baby”. You’re really courting disaster.

When you feel fear or like you’re at the mercy of something “out there”, you find yourself:

* Tensing up as your body constricts

* Stressing out but going nowhere

* Feeling all alone and paralyzed right where you are

* Hoping and praying some Hail Mary effort you put forth will create a miracle or someone else will come save you

Here’s the thing, none of these choices are going to get you where you want to go. (And, yes, not choosing is a choice.) I have yet to find a story of success where someone took the approach of just hanging on for any length of time and were joyful with the results. Sure there may be moments when you need to pause, reflect, and make space to make a decision, but as long as you don’t let days turn into weeks turn into months, that is not hanging on, that is conscious creation.

All the experts I coach with and mentor with share a similar message -You are responsible for your results. This is not just in good times but in all times and all results. While lots of people are sitting around with a beer kvetching about the economy, their job, and having a pity party, people who will ultimately succeed are out there creating their own reality. They are willing to do and be what the majority of people are not.

I used to sit back and look at successful people like these who seemingly had effortless success and made money in sums I could barely count the zeros on, and just be pissed-off. Like why them and not me, right? Until it became as clear as day to me -they were willing to do the things I was not. They were willing to do things differently, take a risk, not follow the crowd of lemmings off the cliff, and stop waiting around for someone to deliver them an answer. They went out and found the answer from other successful people or created their own answers in a new way.

Like the cat in the poster, there really is only one way to get out of a jam where you feel like you’re hanging off a cliff by a branch. First you need to open yourself up to receive (someone to reach their hand out to you). Then you need to trust that the support that shows up is exactly right for you. Then you need to let go and surrender (if you don’t let go, you’ll just engage in a tug of war with the help that shows up).

One thing I know for sure is that if you own or are starting your own business and you’re waiting for things to get better before you invest in your own growth, take a stand for your value, or commit to your marketing, you will be one of those “has-been” businesses at whatever time the economy does turn around. If you are an employee and you’re just hanging in there until things get better or “settle down” before you invest in your own growth, prepare for your next career step, or make a move that’s right for you, you’ll be waiting forever.

During this time of great opportunity (and really every day can be a time of great opportunity if you look) are you going to do something with it or wait around for “someday”? The truth is we rarely regret things that we do; we regret the things we did not do.

So, are you going to wait around and create a trail of regrets or make a decision right here, right now to take your power back, your response-ability and become your own success story? The choice is yours, choose wisely.

Giving Up the Good to Get the Great

Have you ever been working on something, going down a path in your business or life, and it just doesn’t feel as good as you want it to?

You can reason it out – doing this makes sense, this is something that’s good for me or my business, I need to do this, I’ve got it pretty good here, etc… but you’re just not excited?

Congratulations – you’ve got a good situation. But what it’s costing you is greatness.

When I began putting together my six-month Business Success Breakthrough program, I started working with a partner. I was creating all the handouts, and my partner was to help me with the audio portion, and we’d split the proceeds. Some little voice was bothering me from the beginning – is this really what you want to do? Then when we actually began recording a few audios, the voice got stronger.

My partner was providing a supportive voice, but all the content was mine. And I was feeling like this wasn’t a real partnership. It wasn’t my partner’s fault – I like him personally, and he has plenty to offer, but I just didn’t need anything from him for this project.

After talking to a friend, I realized that this situation wasn’t what I wanted or needed. I wanted a 2nd voice on the audios, but I didn’t need a full partner – I needed a sidekick who would add a few comments and let me lead the show.

So I talked to my partner, and told him that I wanted to do this project myself. Fortunately, we hadn’t done too much together, and he was incredibly gracious and supportive of my choice. We’ll work together in the future, I’m sure – just not this time.

When you find that you’re traveling the wrong road, it’s never too late to turn back.

That call was hard to make. I knew that I had a pretty good situation with this person. But I also knew that taking it back, and making it my own, was the ‘great choice’ in this case.

The Universe supports you in greatness.

I immediately got an offer from national speaker, Cheri Britton (www.BoomThinking.com) to be my 2nd voice on the audios. Cheri is funny and articulate, and she’s a perfect sidekick on this project. And now I’m excited, really excited, about how great this program is. But it wouldn’t have happened if I hadn’t been willing to give up the good to get the great.

Where in your life are you accepting the good, instead of going for the great?

Is there a client that is draining your energy, but you’re afraid to let them go? Are you plugging along with a business model that is bringing you moderate income, instead of looking for something that would be overwhelmingly successful? Whether it’s a relationship, or an office system, or a mindset – if it’s just good, but not great, you’re cheating yourself of your true success.

Tapping Tips for Success

Setup statement (tap the KC point):

Even though I’m afraid to give up this situation, I know that it’s not serving me, and I’m open to the great.

Even though it would be safer to keep this situation, even though I know it’s not the best, I choose to accept myself completely.

Even though I don’t know if I can let this go, I choose to accept myself now.

Do several rounds, tapping on each of the tapping points, using the following reminder phrases, or make up your own:

I know this isn’t the best situation

But it’s safer to keep it.

How do I know what else is out there?

What if there isn’t anything better out there?

I know this isn’t serving me

But I want to be safe.

I’m nervous about giving up the situation.

It’s not so bad

But it’s not great.

How could I change now?

This is what I’ve done.

Don’t I have to live with this?

When the intensity of your upset has dropped to a 5 or below, do one round, tapping on each of the tapping points, using the following reminder phrases or make up your own:

What if I could give up the good, and go for the great?

I wonder if I could create something that would really be amazing.

I’m open to the Universe prviding me with something great.

I choose to let go of the good and go for the great.

Alternate the negative and positive rounds (always end with the positive!) until you feel excitement at the idea of letting go of the good, and receiving the great.

Identify one thing in your life where you’re accepting just the good. Eliminate that so you can create greatness for yourself.
