Stop Chasing the Money and Start Chasing the Dream

By Suzanne Evans

“Don’t chase the paper- chase the dream” P. Diddy

This year as I begin to reflect on all that we have done at Help More People, the hundreds we have served, the businesses launched, stretched, and grown I am really grateful and a bit curious. I get asked all the time- how did you do it? Here’s how:

When you love what you do so much your sides could split, money comes easy. I know some of you are already discounting this after just my first sentence. You are pulling up all your considerations and circumstances:

~ I love what I do and I am broke

~ I am in my purpose, but I hate marketing

~ I am passionate, but I can’t get clients

~ I love what I do, but this is too hard

No. When you love what you do… when you wake up every day feeling like if you didn’t do it then it would be criminal, then you figure out, learn, and do whatever it takes. You never stop. You never pause. For me money is love. It allows me to share, give, develop, and grow. Over the last three years I was never chasing the money- I was always chasing the dream. The dream of seeing hundreds of entrepreneurs launch and grow and thrive even in this economy. The dream of seeing helping-based businesses change lives and transform people and situations. The dream of having the abundance to write checks for things I am passionate about and care for deeply. I was chasing the love – the love I had to share with people that I knew would then turn and share with others – that deep, rich ripple effect love.

Chasing the money doesn’t work. At some point you will get bored and angry when things don’t go exactly as you planned. Money is not that hard to make. Really. You could think of 100 ways to make money today – illegally, legally, in a job, asking, begging, Ebay, on and on. Money is not that hard to make. The hard part is making a difference. When you can make money by making a difference, everything is deeper. You don’t mind the hits or jabs or naysayers that come your way, you simply keep chasing the dream because when your dream comes true, so does everyone’s around you.

When you love what you do so much you will do whatever it takes to BE THE CHANGE in this world, when you are focused on helping people, serving, and love, you can’t help but make money. I wake up everyday and ask myself two questions:

* Who can I help?

* Who can I serve?

I never ask how much money I can make and don’t misunderstand I am in this to make money – I know that money will allow me to change my world, your world, and the entire world. I just know it is not the fastest path to cas*h. I know when I love people, when I serve people, and when I help people, money always follows IF I am certain to ask. You can’t just live your life giving everything away. I know that by charging the RIGHT rate for my services I help people and you do too.

So, how did I do what I did this year? I chased the dream. I know that money is just love. Money is a barometer to measure the love you give and the love you receive through the divine work that you do. Money is energy and light and air and love. I am not looking to be a millionaire to count my dollars…I am looking to be a millionaire to count my blessings.

Stop chasing the money and start chasing the dream.

Managing Your Fears And Anxieties When Facing A Major Health Crisis

By Stanley Popovich

251703_cold1Some people who have a major illness may have to deal with some fear and anxiety. Not knowing what may or may not happen can be very stressful. The good news is that there are ways to deal with your fears and anxieties.
The first step is to remind yourself that there are many people who have had major illnesses and still live a productive life. There are many medicines, nowadays, that can treat a variety of illnesses. In addition, there are also new treatments constantly being discovered that can improve your chances of survival.

Learn to communicate with your doctor and loved ones. You do not have to be alone in dealing with your illness and fears. Talking with others can give you additional insights and options to your current problems.

Take advantage of any assistance that may be around you. There are many self help groups available that a person can use that will help them to cope with their circumstances. These groups are also a great place to learn the skills of managing your fears and worries.

Do not try to do everything at the same time. Some people try to handle all of their anxieties at the same time. When trying to do everything all at once, it becomes harder to find the answers to your problems. Go at your pace in managing your stresses.

Remember that there is always hope that things will get better. Nobody can predict the future with one hundred percent accuracy. Remain positive and upbeat and do not focus on your fearful and exaggerated thoughts. In addition, prayer is a great way to manage your fears. Do not underestimate the power of prayer.

Remember that your mental health is just as important as your physical health. Do not neglect your mental health. Try to think of positive statements that you can use to help calm yourself down. Do not get upset when things do not work out for you. They key is to take it one step at a time.

If you still have trouble then seek the services of a counselor or clergyman who can lead you in the right direction. You can also talk to your doctor and see what he or she suggests. Your doctor can refer you to his network of contacts and they will be able to help you. The key is not to lose hope nd give up.

Stan Popovich is the author of “A Layman’s Guide to Managing Fear Using Psychology, Christianity and Non Resistant Methods” – an easy to read book that presents a general overview of techniques that are effective in managing persistent fears and anxieties. 5 Easy and Healthy Techniques to Deal With Your Stress

By Drali Zeni

619571_grass_from_stockholm_11Stress is a normal body response in facing various needs or responsibilities of one’s life. The needs or responsibilities could be issues which come from the outside of a person (for example: a letter from a falling behind bank loan, friends, job, or relationship problem), or may also comes from one’s own self thinking (for example: how a person review or judge himself or herself). Stress is often labels as a bad thing. However, every person need some pressure indeed so that they can achieve a better life.

Healthy techniques to handle stress, among others are:

1. Taking a Catnap: A catnap for about 30 to 45 minutes should refresh the body back. A nap also can replenish your health and repair any damage in your body. Notable peoples who have benefit from day sleep or nap to deal with stress are John F Kennedy, Thomas Alva Edison and Salvador Dali.

2. Massaging: You can visit a professional massager or expert or ask your own couple or a friend to massage your neck and shoulder. By massaging you are not only relieving the tense muscles, but also improving your relationship or bond with your couple and friends.

3. Artistic Self Expression: Try to be creative and divert your energy positively. You can try to learn acting, or play musical instruments, photography, drawing, poetry or singing. Music is a very good stress defusing medium. Playing musical instrument or just listening to music alone has proven to be very helpful in relieving stress.

4. To Laugh Often: This technique is not a secret anymore. Your laugh can make the stress that you face to become lighter. This also makes you to always show people a pleasant expression on your face. People will like you, you will feel your burdens lighter. A pleasant expression also attracts more helping hands.

5. Be Soft to Yourself: Whether you realized it or not, in fact we are continuously talking to our self. Talking to our own self reflects self behavior and self image. You can change both of the things through positive talking to your own self. Better, the talking itself can generate changes in the chemical processes of the body which is beneficial, in a way by activating the nervous system that raises relaxation. On the other hand, negative self talking in oneself would result stimulation on sympathetic nervous system and creating a feel of body tiredness.

So handle and overcome your stress. Live happily and healthily.

How to Enhance Your Memory

I want to enhance my memory.910893_light_explosion1 At 62 years of age, in a house with two kids, a lovely wife, who enjoys her conversation, and four cats, there are lots of distractions, and when you couple all that noise with my age, there truly is a need for enhanced memory, or I will forget my name, and I definitely will forget my schedule.

Not only will I forget my schedule, but I struggle on occasion to find the right word, which is a signal that my brain is aging, and the word recall issue could be a sign of more serious memory issues coming, so I am looking for memory enhancement tools.

I remember as a kid when I wanted to be a memory superstar, I bought and started to read the Harry Lorayne memory enhancement materials, so my more recent search began there, but I quickly discovered the brain fitness materials, and I discovered the best memory enhancement is a brain workout that takes care of the pillars of brain fitness.

When I take care of the pillars of brain fitness, I enhance my brain’s capacity to grow new neurons, which a number of experts say migrate to the hippocampus, a key brain structure in memory, and I enhance the connectivity of neurons, which is really what memory is.

The terms used to describe those two terms? Neurogenesis and neuroplasticity.

No one knew we had the capacity to grow new neurons until 10-15 years ago, which is called neurogenesis, and no one knew how plastic the brain is, which means when it learns something new, it might form new connections in minutes, which is called neuroplasticity.

So What are the Pillars of Brain Fitness?

To enhance memory through enhanced neurogenesis and neuroplasticity, one must get regular physical activity/workouts in, make sure the diet is filled with lots of good foods, including antioxidants and omega 3 fatty acid, get regular sleep, which enhances memory consolidation among other things, manage stress because unnecessary stress hormones kill those new neurons, and challenge the brain with novel learning experiences.

Sounds like an awful lot doesn’t it? Well, for a guide which offers a reasoned approach to the pillars of brain fitness, I suggest your read Brainfit for Life by Simon Evans,Ph.D. and Paul Burghardt,Ph.D., neuroscientists at the University of Michigan, who thankfully write for the non-neuroscientist.

Evans and Burghardt have culled the scientific research for brain fitness tidbits and put them together with suggestions for daily habits we can develop for enhanced memory for example.

The most fascinating pillar to me was the novel learning challenge pillar. Most of the experts say that the learning which most enhances brain fitness is the kind of learning we experience when we learn a new instrument or a new language, because there is a steadily increasing challenge, and an opportunity for the appropriate amount of positive feedback.

Even with retirement looming, I do not have time to learn a new language or instrument, so I read their discussion of something called the dual n back task, which is a computerized program, with great interest.

It appears that practicing the dual n back task can have some extraordinary impact on my attention and short term memory, even increasing an aspect of intelligence called fluid intelligence, which makes it easier to discriminate between stimuli and quickly decide which to pay attention to.

(Remember the noisy environment I described above)?

So I bought a commercial brand of the dual n back task, and tried it out, and found it to be initially quite frustrating, but within an hour of beginning, I was getting the knack of it, and then it became addictive.

So being the good experimenter that I am, I tried out a couple more of the commercial brain fitness programs to see what impact they might have on my memory.

First though, I read the research, particularly the IMPACT and PNAS studies.

(By the way, I was already exercising regularly, took the omega 3′s, got regular age appropriate rest, and used a heart rate variability tool to regulate stress, so the computerized brain fitness tools were the pillar I was paying the least attention to in my daily life).

One of the programs I tried, which was put to the research test in the IMPACT study, is really designed with Senior Brains in mind, and both the participants and the researchers involved in IMPACT were quite impressed with the results. Memory scores improved frequently by ten years or more.

What I noticed is that my word recall issue got better, which was a relief, because now I know that the issue can be worked with, and it is not permanent.

In other words, a good brain fitness workout on the computer helps my brain build neuroplastic connections with new neurons.

I use one other program for regular touch ups, and I mean several times a day some days, when I am doing computer intensive work, because it is an online program I can boot up for a quick practice between phone calls or clients.

Enhanced memory is very doable, just needs to be a part of everyday activity, and that is a relief to this Boomer Brain.

Incorrect ADHD Diagnoses Based on Blood Results

by Jon Bennett

495787_electricIn our look, over the past few weeks, at the problem of ADD/ADHD misdiagnosis we came across some possible causes that seemed very straightforward and logical when you stop to think about them. With enough time looking deep into the problem, most people would eventually come up with the possibility of other reasons such as lack of sleep or giftedness giving the same symptoms.

There are however some possible causes for ADD/ADHD misdiagnosis that are so ‘strange’ and unexpected that they remain undetected for years or even decades.

The factual account of the behavior of a young boy whose behavior drastically changed to such a degree that his parents could not believe their eyes. In a short time of just a few weeks the child turns from being easy to deal with to being out of control.

The parents struggle to understand why their normally compliant and obedient son now responds to them with fits of rage and erratic and impulsive behavior. They follow the footsteps of what any parent would do to help their child by looking to a professional in the area. The diagnosis of the medical professionals is depressingly predictable and familiar: ADD/ADHD.

The parents make the decision to medicate their son and for a time things seem to go a bit better. There are still some unanswered questions. Why did the symptoms occur out of the blue? Why did they have to keep ‘upping’ the medication to the stage where their son got dizzy from it? Why did they not see some of the classic predictors of ADD/ADHD during earlier developmental stages?

These questions drive them to keep searching for other possible sources. The answer that they come up with astounds them and shows that all the ‘experts’ who so confidently diagnosed ADD/ADHD were in fact dead wrong. This narrative dives into the personal experiences of Kenny and his mother Jenny, but it could be the story of anyone who is exhibiting ADD/ADHD symptoms. Kenny’s prolbem in the end was not behavioral or neurological in source but in fact from bacteria!

There happen to be two types of bartonella and babesia caused by bateria that smother blood cells. The symtpoms of these bacterial causes are very similar to many symptoms for ADD/ADHD. Both babesia and bartonella are transmitted by tick bites and are carried by ticks all over North America. Basically they might be the true reason of a vast number of incorrect diagnoses of ADD/ADHD. The issues rest in that blood test for bacterial causes is not listed in the standard ADD/ADHD diagnostic processes.

This problem is compounded by the fact that the tests to pick up these specific kinds of bacteria are quite complicated and that they will almost invariably be ‘missed’ if a standard blood test is used. Dr. James Schaller, author of Bartonella: Diagnosis and Treatment and Babesia: Diagnosis and Treatment, was involved in Kenny’s final diagnosis and treatment. He strongly believes that undiagnosed bacterial conditions, caused by ‘tick borne’ bacteria, are behind many modern health problems including some cases of ‘ADD/ADHD’. He has written extensively on the subject and strongly advises parents to eliminate these conditions from the list of probable causes before settling for an ADD/ADHD diagnosis. This is done using a blood test geared to finding this bacteria that costs only a few hundred dollars.

If the tests are positive the patient will then be treated with a course of antibiotics. This is usually an effective method of eliminating the bacterial invaders and the ADD/ADHD symptoms! Kenny’s mom submitted his blood for testing, the results were positive and Kenny was treated. It all came down to 0,000 spent to discover the true cause of his ADHD symptoms. Jenny Miner wished that she had not wasted all this time to finally get the right results. The fact is, however, that there is so little awareness of barbesia and bartonella that it was never even mentioned as a possibility by the medical professionals that she initially sought out. She feels that it is her job to raise awareness of the connection of ADD/ADHD symptoms and bacteria spread by ticks.

The ‘take home’ advice: If you do suspect that there might be a bacterial explanation to the ADD/ADHD symptoms that you are dealing with (e.g. started after being bit by a tick) do not forget to tell your doctor and get tests done as soon as you can. All of the above goes to show once again that it would be rather foolish just to accept an initial ADD/ADHD diagnosis as being written in stone.

It would very often be worth your while to search for alternative causes and explanations. Doing this could mean the difference between trudging the path into the arms of the ‘ADD/ADHD Industry’ and finding your own course to the best solutions for Ayou in your circumstances.

What Do You Love About Yourself?

Paula Gregorowicz, The Paula G Company, helps women cultivate the confidence they need to uplevel their life and business and succeed on their own terms.

Can you answer that question quickly and with a nice long list? If you can’t you’re not alone. So many people really struggle with this question. If I asked you the question “What do you dislike about yourself?” Would the answers flow freely and make a long list? If so, again, you have lots of company.

What got me thinking about this topic again was our monthly full moon gathering. We each were asked to bring to the circle a list of 2-3 things we love about ourselves and 1-2 qualities we would really like to focus on shifting for the better (aka things we don’t like as much or wish we were better at). When we met, we each got to share and talk about our list and light a candle to hold these intentions.

Once again I got to experience firsthand the power of watching wonderful people struggle so much to acknowledge things they love about themselves while quickly jumping right to the “don’t like/need to improve” list. I have seen it so many times — as a participant and assistant at Debbie Ford’s Shadow Process, in my clients, my friends, and definitely myself.

What fascinates me is how when one person speaks in the group and struggles with finding qualities she loves about herself, the others present can so quickly name those qualities. “You are compassionate! You are a passionate woman! You are so giving and charitable! You are creative and talented! You are loving!” The positive qualities just flow effortlessly from the group. Yet, the minute the question gets turned back on us, we freeze like deer in the headlights, mutter a bit, turn our gaze downward, and say “um, hmmm, I don’t know”. Almost as if saying “Well, I don’t really have any positive qualities that I acknowledge myself for or that I like or that I think matter enough.”

What’s up with that!? And I have to say while this time I was able to quickly say that I love my sense of humor, compassion, and ability to love, if someone asked me to claim some other positive qualities that I don’t see or embrace in myself (but easily see in others), I’d shy right away.

In my training as an Integrative Coach I learned a lot about what we call light shadows — those positive aspects of ourselves that we don’t notice or don’t fully embrace. One of the biggest clues to finding out what some of your light shadows are is to do the following exercise:

On a piece of paper write down the names of 3 people you admire. They can be famous people, friends, family, whomever (and they don’t even have to still be living). Now list what qualities about them that you admire. Qualities are things such as courage, authenticity, compassion, etc. Not “they have lots of money”. That’s an external thing that has nothing to do with WHO you (or they) are. Now you might say something like “keen businessperson” and that would qualify as a quality because it is about WHO that person is. Stop reading and do the list right now.

Now — do you see all those qualities? Those are qualities you already have and possess that you need to embrace in yourself. Now, maybe those qualities aren’t activated as much in you (yet) as they are in this other person, but you possess them and the first step toward making them flourish more in your life is to honor, acknowledge, and embrace the fact that they are a part of you.

You see, if we think “we’re not that” we deny who we really are and what gifts we have to offer the world. And, we all have unique gifts the world desperately needs that only we can deliver. Don’t shortchange yourself, those you love, and the world at large.

Embracing our light is a huge piece in becoming our own best friend and living powerfully in the world at our highest potential. So, start right where you are today and start embracing just one thing you love about yourself. And, if you need a little encouragement, find a supportive friend or community to help you do it.

The Essential Self-Esteem Boost

By Jed McCall

Your self-esteem is involved in the decisions you make throughout your day. As you grew from childhood to adulthood outside influences have played a part in setting the level of your self esteem. Do you now realize that the people who influenced yours were wrong. Were you bullied, did you grow up in a challenging home that has left your self esteem, and confidence, dented? As an adult you have the opportunity to re-examine your level of self-esteem by asking for feedback from people you respect. Believe it or not, criticism can be a positive thing, if you can learn to see the positives of someone valuing you enough to give you honest feedback, or constructive criticism, you can improve your performance.

Of course, more often than not, criticism will hurt your feelings, but when you can be honest with yourself, and discover that maybe what was said is true, you can take the opportunity to work to improve yourself in that area. If there are things you’d like to achieve, and believe are possible, set yourself a goal, and work your way towards it. If your goal seems too big, break it into smaller pieces, and aim to get through each part until you finally complete it. Surround yourself with good people, friends who you share a mutual trust with, this will boost your self esteem.

Try to stay active and enjoy yourself, Staying healthy will enable you to feel better about yourself and your self-image. Try not to feel self-conscious about yourself, If you are self-conscious in a social situation focus on the following: Just because you lack confidence doesn’t mean others can tell. Try not to constantly say things like “I’m no good at anything” this will not help your self esteem, or confidence. Self-esteem is not just about thinking positively about yourself all the time, it is about being realistic, and about not thinking badly about yourself for no reason.

Try not to be afraid of failure It is how you deal with it that sets you apart. Everyone gets knocked down at some time, so the real question is, will you get back up? Make a pact with yourself to gain from the experience every time you attempt something, and don’t succeed. You will be surprised at how much stronger you will feel when you realize that you did actually learn something from your disappointment. When you work to raise your self-esteem don’t expect changes all at once. Beating low self-esteem is a wonderful thing, and it is easier than you think.
